... then you're not a woman, or a person with an opinion, that's for sure.
My sister is the latest addition to the crime stats in the neighborhood. Yesterday, in Section 14 (it's Sunday, lots of people about), someone tried to snatch her cellphone in broad daylight. She tried to put up resistance (good girl!), held on to her phone (hey man, it's our lifeline to the rest of the world, and a shitload of number we can't hope to remember) and pulled it back. And what did she get?
A punch to her face by a frustrated fucktard who's obviously too stupid and too lazy to get a fucking job and has to resort to mugging (well, he's not even good at that, huh? Fucking loser.) to make some chump change.
And to add insult to injury, no one seemed to make any attempt to help her out, funny how in a place with such high traffic of people no one seems to care. One dude selling currypuffs nearby who WATCHED (only watched, never bothered to help, maybe one day his mother can get assaulted and we can just stand by like he did, huh?), decides to ask in jest about whether her phone got taken already or not. What the hell?
She was lucky that she only got the punch, and still has her phone. Many other women are not as lucky, I know. And countless people will still stand by like fucking morons not wanting to "masuk campur" and intervene. And making jokes about it - I mean, what the hell do you think will be the response, scrotum-for-brains? - just shows the mentality of the people around us.
Our people are :
- The ones who will sit by and watch a crime happen without lifting a finger because it's too troublesome to get involved
- The ones who will question and blame the victim for the crime instead of the perp
- The ones who will make jokes about it like smart alecs
- The ones who would rather us all live in fear than to make the effort to step up to the situation and make a change. Too much trouble apparently, that will disrupt their peaceful, happy-ass lives.
In the meantime, women live in fear of being robbed, mugged, assaulted, abducted, molested, harrassed, violated, raped, killed -- every fucking second of every fucking day.
Our people don't really care, they laugh off attempts to change legislation and awareness by NGOs (because authorities don't really bother - well, just for a while, after a big profile case that usually NEEDs to end in death, but after the ambers die out, so does their illusion of concern).
AS usual, it's easier to lecture victims on what they should've done to change the situation instead of deal with perps since it's a slap to the face on their incompetence. Simple as that.
Just like rounding up a bunch of music-lovers on the basis of Satan worship and use irresponsible/incompetent/ignorant/profit-hungry mass media to shut down the independant music movement via public misconception (because the authorities chose to block out any valid counter-argument because any alternate point of view will only serve to confuse the sheep-like public). Why? Because we don't listen to propaganda pop. Because we express ourselves in different ways. Because there are truths about our society revealed in some of the music that decision-makers don't want to talk about. Because we're the sub-section of the population who don't worship and obey the words of the politicians (and the use of Mawi as a propaganda tool ain't getting to us as well). Because we're not drone material and they need to scare us into submission using brute force and socially-sanctioned authority (and legally sanctioned ignorance).
Sounds like women and young people have the same problem. They gotta keep us down, so they use fear as leverage. Many rape victims don't speak up because we have learnt that victims will usually be raped AGAIN in court when THEIR lives are ripped apart as their character/attire/relationships/virginity/background is questioned,that they have to spend more time proving that they didn't ask to be brutally violated... when a man who can rape his 5 year-old can gain leniency on the basis that he's over 50 years old/sick or invalid/retarded/is the breadwinner for the family...
Some people are right when they say having children is just pointless because this society is not worth adding to, it's not worth putting someone else through the risks of living life so steeped in bullshit, hypocracy and misogyny, and unless you're bringing in a brain dead drone robot who can just take orders and not form any kind of opinions whatsoever -- just go get a damn abortion man. It's not worth a damn to bring a child into this world and watch them get fucked over again and again and again and again by a system that doesn't give a fuck.
