The boy's club of policy makers upstairs.
Two days ago a woman, a young mother, a wife, a daughter was car-jacked, robbed and raped twice.
Her assailant waited for her as she returned from her quick run to the store to buy formula for the baby, jumped her in her car, threatened her life at knifepoint and got her to drive to some secluded spot in Damansara where he proceeded to rape her twice, pocket the RM50 she had and leave.
How did we know he was waiting for her? That he carjacked her?
The goddamn CCTV cameras that miraculously happen to be working (yes, didn't expect THAT, didja?) in the pretty well lit parking lot.
Sure, he must've studied the camera locations and avoided facial identification.
But my question is, what the FUCK are the goddamn security guards doing in their surveillance room? Watching porn? Smoking crack? Catching the World Cup? Snuck out cos the supervisor's away? WHAT? WHAT? WHAT?
And then a politician can come out the next day, shaking his head at this "tragedy", saying that the security needs to be improved at parking lots.
I'd like to just bitch-slap him and say DUH, MOFO.
Three years ago Canny Ong was carjacked in a parking lot, abducted, raped and killed. Everyone went into a hand-wringing, head-shaking drama. We found out that half the cameras in security systems are not working. Policy makers eager to look good start a war cry to make it safer for all women.
So we put all these damn cameras that work. But nothing is done to get security guards that actually do their damn job. Women get accosted ALL THE TIME. From simple harrassment to groping to plain getting attacked. I mean, what is the use of security at all these condominiums you pay a shitload of money for when you still hear of horrible attacks on women there? What about gated communities, supposedly painting the illusion of safety and security, when in reality all you need is to give the typical Malaysian wave-salute (oh, you all know this, gets you through most security checkpoints).
If the politicians are serious about keeping us safe, they're certainly not showing it. And if there's any action done - as we've seen time and time again - will only be temporary.
Stay alert, girls. You're all you got to protect yourself because goddamit, no one else really gives a shit about your safety and no one's watching the fucking cameras.
Better paranoid than dead.
